On January 29, 1923, the Union Missionary Society of LaGrange first met at the First Presbyterian Church for the purpose of forming an association for the handling of "charity cases" in LaGrange. The name chosen for this organization was "LaGrange Welfare Association." In 1991, we became a corporation and changed our name to LaGrange Personal Aid Association, Inc. We are proud to be a United Way agency.

We are a non-profit organization, established to provide temporary assistance to residents of the Troup County / West Georgia area during time of distress, illness or disability. Assistance is provided at the time of need, in whatever form is suitable to the client's situation.

What assistance is available?

Personal Aid Program

Rent or mortgage assistance is available for persons who are off work on medical leave, are employed, and are able to return to their job when released by the doctor.  Other assistance available under this program: prescription fill/refill payments; clothing and clothing referrals; purchase of medically related items; medical transportation; transient aid; senior Christmas program.

SHARE & Round-Up Programs

The SHARE and Round-Up Programs are administered by Personal Aid for the City of LaGrange and Diverse Power.  A voluntary contribution by customers of these utilities, added to their monthly utility bills, provides funds for the SHARE program.  The City of LaGrange Utilities Round-Up Program rounds a customer's bill to the next whole dollar.  Round-Up funds are available for customers with a City of LaGrange utility or water bill only.  Assistance is based on income, and is limited to once a year for no more than $100.00.

Interfaith Food Closet

The Interfaith Food Closet is administered in coordination with local churches. Although generous in nature, this program provides temporary assistance until government aid is acquired or medical/work circumstances change.

Charles C. Maddox Veteran's Assistance Program

We proudly support our veterans through our Charles C. Maddox Veteran's Assistance Program.  Established January 2013.

Church Benevolence Funds

Benevolence/Deacon's Funds distribution services are provided for First Presbyterian Church, Loyd Presbyterian Church, City Light Church, Hilyer Baptist Church and Rosemont Baptist Church.  These funds are distributed in conjunction with our other programs to assist those in need in the Troup County area.

Screening Services

Screening and application services are provided for the Troup Cares Free Medical Clinic, West Georgia Physicians, Empty Stocking Fund, and Lions Club Glasses Program.

We are also Co-Administrators of the local Charity Tracker Online Database with United Way of West Georgia Inc.
